680 Home Appliances, Inc. was incorporated on August 28, 1968, initially focusing on the sale of home appliances. The company’s name was derived from its original store location at 680 Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila, and was also chosen for its auspicious meaning in Chinese culture. At the time, Rizal Avenue was the country’s busiest commercial hub, where 680 made its mark by selling millions of electric fans and gas stoves at significantly lower prices, often with giveaways. As the business grew, the company expanded its outlets and, on August 23, 1979, acquired a 3,300-square-meter property at 839-841 EDSA, Diliman, Quezon City (formerly Highway 54), a major route to provincial areas. A five-story, 5,000-square-meter building was constructed, becoming 680’s new main office when it opened to the public in December 1980. By the 1990s, an annex was added, increasing the total building area to 12,000 square meters, making it the largest 680 outlet and its headquarters to this day. In 1989, another key location at 5021 P. Burgos, Makati, was inaugurated. Originally acquired in 1978, a five-story building was later constructed in the late 1980s, designed for both retail and rental purposes. While the ground floor served as another 680 outlet, the upper floors were initially intended for long-term rentals, but market demands led to the establishment of 680 Apartelle, diversifying the company’s business ventures.
